How Does the Pension Calculator Work?

This advanced calculator uses the power of compound interest to estimate your retirement corpus. It assumes you make investments at the beginning of each month (SIP style). The formula used is:

FV = P × [((1 + r)^n - 1) / r] × (1 + r)
Where P = Monthly Contribution, r = Monthly Return Rate, n = Total number of months.

The NPS (National Pension System) Rule

In India, schemes like NPS require you to use a minimum of 40% of your final corpus to purchase an Annuity (a life insurance product that pays you a fixed monthly pension). The remaining 60% can be withdrawn as a tax-free lumpsum. Our calculator allows you to adjust this ratio to see how it affects your monthly cash flow during retirement.

Frequently Asked Questions

Inflation (mehangai) reduces the purchasing power of money over time. Even at a modest 6% inflation rate, the value of money halves roughly every 12 years. Our calculator shows you the "Real Value" of your future pension in today's terms so you can plan a realistic retirement lifestyle.
When you retire, you give a lump sum amount to an insurance company in exchange for a regular pension. The Annuity Rate is the interest rate they offer on that amount. Currently in India, annuity rates hover between 5.5% to 7% depending on age and policy type.
